A. TagCloud Generator v2

I've had the feeling and the need to improve on my initial release of the tagcloud generator. This is a piece of software i made to make it easy on creating tags for Youtube when uploading videos.

I had a reply on this software that it was missing a feature. He did not stated what he missed but i agreed nonetheless. This is the result of the spare time i had in between the making of the initial version and this one.

I might also add that this will be the final release of this software and only will get patched and fixed if needed. Improvements are always heard and you should always feel free to speak your mind about my projects!

B. Requirements and Instructions

This version, like the initial version will need jQuery and a localhost to run properly as its using php and mysql to communicate to a database that holds the possible results for a tag.

You can download jQuery by going to the linkies and also a localhost of choice. It is not hard to setup and should be fairly easy and straight forward. You also need to import the sql file into an mysql database. Incase of phpmyadmin you can simply go to import to import the sql file provided in the download.

The software however might not be, so here is a small instruction that might help you use this software.

To add a word you simply type the word and a colon followed by the keywords you want to bind to that specific tag. The example below will show:

MyExampleTag:tag example my words that are binded

Then you click on the save button to insert them to the database. The next time you type that keyword will make the binded tags appear on the page. You can click on those to add them to the field.

A. Multiple Columns

Multiple columns is a great addition to the web and is made for people like me. I get intimidated by large paragraphs of text. When the paragraph gets to big, i often don't read as concentrated as where it would be smaller. Otherwise said, the columns feature chunks down the paragraphs in small sentences and divides it over the page.

B. Requirements and Instructions

The requirements of this feature is to use CSS3 for this. It's fairly simple and would like to handle the same options we had in the video on the blog here, explaining what each option does for the columns.

column-count: 3;
This is used to specify the amount of columns we want across the text container we have selected in our CSS. In the case of the example it is set to 3, as where you can change it to what you see fit.

column-gap: 16px;
This option sets the space in between the columns, also shrinking the columns themself to fit them into the container where the columns feature is applied to.

column-rule: 1px solid black;
This will set a separator for each columns, this does not effect column-gap.

column-span: all;
This will for example set the title to jump across all columns or limit it to one column instead. Both ways have their charm and look newspaper-eque.

Those are the options we handled in the video for this feature of the new way of styling websites.

A. Background Sizing

This plot post is going to be fairly simple and straightforward. It was fairly easy to achieve the upgrade from a JavaScript driven menu two a all css menu. The only thing we did different as opposed to the JavaScript menu was, that we used a general selector on a hover.

This means that we select all the tier two items and make them visible the same time, using css for that. The video explains all and the method works to both menu's that we've made before.

Check the video out and all will be clear! It's short; straight forward and i should have thought of it at the first time of recording!

A. TagCloud Generator

I've written this piece of software out of my own personal experience. When I upload of video I need to fill in tags, this is when all of my troubles begin. When it occurs that you fill in a duplicate in the tags it will not accept the information for that specific video. That is when I decided to write this piece of software, to end all of my troubles and to use the software when I need to fill in those tags. This however requires you to set it up with a few pieces of software you can get for free on the Internet, this is not hard and I'll tell you how in the requirements.

B. Requirements and Instructions

The download will contain a folder which is called TagCloud Generator. This is what we call the root folder. You need to download a localhost of your choice, which is either in this case: usbwebserver, wamp or xammp.

When you download of the localhost, you extracted and you get it running according to the documentation provided with the localhost you choose.

Then you extract the TagCloud Generator to the root folder of that localhost. The last thing that rests you to do is to download jQuery an extract that to the same folder where all the other files are at! That's it! It is really that simple, you don't need any knowledge of programming except the knowledge of setting up a localhost.

A. Background Sizing

This feature of CSS3 allows the user to scale the background. Do take in mind that we still scale non-vector backgrounds. This means that the background will stretch and lose quality as we scale. Either way, this feature can be nifty if you want to make smart use of background textures ect!

B. Requirements and Instructions

The feature only requires CSS3. You will need to apply this to any already declared background to work. The example below shall explain how to use background scaling.

I will take the example of last time. Here we have multiple backgrounds. We also want to scale those backgrounds down a little. This can be done via the new feature like this.

background-repeat:	no-repeat;
background-image:	url( "background_01.png" ), url( "background_02.png" ), url( "background_03.png" );
background-position:	20px 20px, 10px 10px, 0px 0px;
background-size:	25%, 50%, 75%;

}

The example above would scale the background that where placed on the body element. It would scale "background_01.png" to 25% of the body element. "background_02.png" to 50% of the body element and "background_03.png" to 75% of the body element.

It is safe to say that the scaling is relative to the object that hosts the backgrounds. This is also very important when working with percentages. You can also use pixels or the other formats of CSS aswell. It would just be like the example below.

background-size:

100px, 200px, 300px;

}

It is really that simple. It will scale on pixels now and has a static value. In any case, this feature is really neat and i recommend you play with this and use it with background textures and reuse them on different objects with different sizes. This feature overall is high on my list! Give it a try and download the sample!

I love this feature. This is my favorite feature. It is a powerfull feature that allows you to create dynamic backgrounds. Imagine what you can do with multiple CSS3 features that will go hand in hand with this. The end result is a really dynamic, scaleable image system that can be applied to many things. This feature in particular is easy and pretty straight forward.

B. Requirements and Instructions

We will need CSS3 for this and i shall demonstrate how you can use this as we did in the video.

The example above shows that the backgrounds need to be stacked up, devided by comma's to make them work. The first background will be the one that appears on the top and it will work it's way down as you add backgrounds to that.

The other features such as background-position work the same. Just devide the properties and have as many in there as the amount of backgrounds that you have to specify what you want to do with each background.

This makes this feature of CSS3 a really powerfull one! You can do a whole lot with this, i highly recommend you to download the live sample and try it out for yourself!

A. Border Radius

The border radius allows us to make rounded corners on objects such as divs. This is a great feature and allows a more dynamic design as oppose to having to rely on static pictures. Thats why it is great to use these! I'll show you how to use them in this blog. You can also download the sample code to check out a live demo of what this really is.

B. Requirements and Instructions

CSS3 is what we need for this, since it already had a pretty big rollout i'm assuming you already have it. It's a simple feature to apply to a lot of objects to start with and doesn't need a whole lot of explaining. We shall take the styling parameters apart one by one and explain them as we go.

In the example above you only see 1 parameter. There are more possible and we will explain them below to make them more clear.

Parameter 1: 10px
If the second parameter is not set, than this will be the border-radius on both ends of the corner. If the second parameter is set, one of the ends is going to be one of the parameters.

Parameter 2: (x)px
This will be the other end of the corner as specified in the first parameter.

Optionally, you can set specific corners by doing border-bottom-left-radius, border-top-left-radius, border-top-right-radius or border-bottom-right-radius. These settings will, you guessed it, specificly change the corner you are making the styling line for.

All and all the border-radius is a really good and well supported function throughout the browsers that are out there today. Styling with it is easy and makes designs dynamic.

Customer Service in Holland

Today, i would like to talk about customer service. I live in Holland where i, last year, bought parts for my new PC. I was dissappointed in the quality of service that was delivered. I understand that there are various factors that will delay or slow or complicate the process of bringing ordered parts to their respective customers. It was however, the way the companies communucated with me, or i should say, the lack of communication that bothered me the most.

I've worked in retail and know what it takes to deliver good customer service, thats one reason more to why i think, whatever happened is unacceptable. Once again to get back at the beginning of the story, i ordered my parts last year. One of the companies that supplied my processor delayed my order because it couldn't be delivered. It came in about 3 weeks late and therefore there was already frustration in putting my brand new computer together.

After putting the parts into my pc, i booted up to see if everything worked ok. However, it appeared that the computer did not boot up. It did not went into post nor did it give any kind of signal that would indicate that it would even try to boot or go into the bios in the first place.

After various ways to get into the bios / different hardware setups we, my certified brother and I, came to the conclusion that my mobo must be a DoA( Dead on Arrival ). So, i directly contacted the company and send it back. I got a brief respondse when it arrived at their company. After a few days i got the message that it needed to be send to the company Gigabyte, because they coudn't fix it. Then it took a week before i contacted them asking for information on what happends and how long it would take. After that communication went black.

They left me out for 2 weeks and now i decided, out of anger, to write this blog because the quality of service it to be ashamed off. If this is what we call good service in Holland, then i must shop elsewhere from now. I've shoped on multiple shops over the past year and it seems that communication with customers it not nearly as good as they claim to be. They all advert on their website to having close customer communication regarding orders placed on their webshops. The opposite has been proven with the level of quality that has been given to me over the past year. These 2 companies, those who i will not name in this blogpost have triggered me into publishing this blogpost.

Not because i want to, more because i feel angered about the customer service. I really feel bothered about this specific issue because it feels like i just thrown a couple hundred euros against the wall. It feels like i'm trapped in between everything now. This is because it woudn't get me anywhere to claim my money back as i've got all the other parts that match the setup i ordered and carefully put together. Nor could i do the same for the other parts as way to much time went over the whole process of getting the parts in the first place.

Now, to all of those who read this. There is no way to describe how i feel. Other than feeling left out by the companies that where supposed to respond to what i had to say to them. They say that they handle customers seriously, there is more reason for me to think that they don't. They must understand my anger. If they don't understand the anger that feeds me to write this, than i would be very dissappointed in the companies that make our market.

I also decided to not name the companies out of respect and to attempt to write this in english to:

A. Publish to a bigger audience
B. Send it to Gigabyte aswell to make them read this, and know the story behind my computer that; after 2 months of waiting still has not been put together.

Conclusion of the story? I will think twice on the companies that i will order my parts from next time. I will also conclude out of this that i'm not angry on the companies, more the way they handle their customers and still claim to take feedback serious. I've had communication with both companies, actually i even made complaints to both.

The company that i got my processor from did not respond to my emailed complaint, so i decided to refile the complaint in another email, to wich i got not responds either. I decided to call them, asked them about the complaint, they found it, but alas; they told me they would make sure i would get responds to that. Yet still, no responds. Still on the phone, i asked if i could tell her my complaint and file it via phone to make sure it would reach to whoever handles these complaints. Yet to date, still no responds.

The company that handles my motherboard did not respond to my emailed complaint and i just didn't feel like going through the same fuzz to end up getting no responds either.

I'm not a common user of this feature, but it might do you well to know that it's there to use! This allows you to easily create a shadow for text. A nice effect on a title maby? Good Luck! It's fairly simple and shoudn't be an issue for any programmer.

B. Requirements and Instructions

We don't need anything other than the use of CSS3. CSS3 is pretty much already integrated in any host as it has been rolling out for quite some time. In the example we've made a div in a HTML5 specified document with the following properties:

text-shadow:	0px 5px 15px #000;

}

The parameters to the text shadow are fairly simple and actually the same as the box-shadow so i took those and copied them in. They are the same in use so here they are:

Parameter 1: 0px
The X-axis offset. This basicly pushes the shadow around from left to right or the other way around.

Parameter 2: 5px
The Y-axis offset. This basicly pushes the shadow around from the top to the bottom or the other way around.

Parameter 3: 15px
This is the width of the shadow itself. The shorter the shadow, the more intense and dense the shadow will be.

Parameter 4: #000
This is the color of the shadow. #000 is plain black.

A. Box Shadows

Box Shadows are shadows behind the object regardless if the object is transparent or not. This creates a neat effect that we can use to give our designs a more complex look to them! They are very easy to make and can save your designer a lot of time; or could be the next update to the websites that you have! The ultilize the new standard CSS3. Good luck!

B. Requirements and Instructions

We don't need anything other than the use of CSS3. You do not need to do anything for this as it's pretty much already out there. In the example we made a div in a HTML5 specified document with the following properties:

Now, you might have already noticed the box-shadow property. We are going to take the parameters apart 1 by 1 to make them clear.

The vertical css menu has already been handled. I've had the request to do the same for a horizontal menu, here is my responds. It's actually the same basic structure, easy to style and change around as you go making these. Menu's are a fun thing to do. It's also a great start to learn some Javascript and get started on that.

B. Requirements and Instructions

This menu will, just like the vertical menu be based upon the framework Jquery. This is also included in the linkies might you still need that. I also recommend you to download the source code so you can compare to your own when your stuck on something.

Now, the menu has a pretty straight forward structure. The code will show it all, a great overview of what to expect. Now, as always i shall display the code a little so we know what we are talking about. This is how the structure looks like:

Now, this is not all that hard to understand. Most of this menu is also done in the CSS and the Javascript just handles a hover function. The reason i've done it in div's like before is because they are that more manageable.

There is not much to explain other than the javascript function wich explains itself really. I can explain them i guess so here are they:

.children() - Selects all the sub-element(s) of the selected object.
.show() - Shows the element(s) that has been selected.
.hide() - Hides the element(s) that has been selected.

A. Image Resize Script

Image Resizing has been called to life to optimize the loading times. Resizing will make a image smaller and also smaller in size. Therefore will improve the loading time when using these thumbnails. There where a few mistakes in the video but have been fixed in the final source files that have been included in this blogpost.

B. Requirements and Instructions

You will need to have writing permissions to the uploads folder and need to utilize the GD library in PHP. These are commonly on by default but sometimes on rare exeptions disabled.

The code included will explain pretty much everything in that was said in the video and is corrected on mistakes. In this blogpost i will talk about the calculations that need to be done to do the actual resizing itself. It is more about the math than it is on using the actual functions.

When resizing the pictures, we need to have data such as the height and width to resize it to the proper format so we don't stretch or push the image. This is done by calculating the height or width with an ratio. The ratio knows what the shape of the picture is like and locks that shape so we can resize it properly.

Now, how do we calculate this? lets pull up the full calculations and take this in step by step. Just to break the code down and this makes the code easier to understand.

$newwidth= 100;
$ratio= $newwidth / $width;
$newheight= round( $height * $ratio );

When calculating the new height, we need to the aspect ratio to that picture. We calculate this simple by deviding the newwidth( 100 ) by the width of the picture. Leaving a negative number as the original width most likely will be larger than the new width.

Having this negative number, the aspect ratio; allows us to calculate the new height. This ratio represents the data that we already know. We knew that the newwidth would be 100px and therefore calculating the ratio upon the width of the original picture.

When calculating the height we just do $height * $ratio to decrease the size of the height to the appropriate height. Therefore the image will resize in aspect ratio and not being pulled or stretched.

PC Build - Parts yet to recieve

Anybody who talks to me and knows me, knows that i love IT and all its stuff. I love general technology and I am a complete proud geek when it comes to computers. That being said, i will build my new PC soon. I have all the parts except for my processor wich is supposely coming in on Thursday.

Image uploading always has been a big issue on websites. Websites gain more graphical material and therefore its almost impossible to imagine a website without an image uploader. Even if it was for a simple gallery. This image uploading script is interesting because it brings back the bare basics on uploading files in general. We use this uploader for images, but just as easily it could be turned around in a file uploader. That being said, this uploader is simple. Give the download a go and check the requirements below!

B. Requirements and Instructions

Image uploading in this example doesn't take a whole lot. The only thing you need to take in mind when working on a host is that the upload folder needs to have writing permissions to move the uploaded file there. Now, I also wanna go more deeply on how the process works.

The uploader is actually fairly simple and PHP only kicks in to move the already uploaded file. When the form has been posted, the file is already uploaded to the host's temp folder.

We then use PHP's code to check IF the $_POST has been made, therefore the $_FILES has been done to( to check if the file actually uploaded ); Then use move_uploaded_file( $temp. $path ) to move the uploaded file to the desired folder, wich in this case is the uploads folder.

Thats all there is to uploading images in PHP. Do take in note, that the sample script provided is not safe and could be sensitive to automated scripts ran on any website on the web.

A. Uploadify your files!

Uploadify your files today! This addon makes it easy on uploading files/images to your website using this powerfull script made by Reactive Apps. I love this, and decided to make a video and blogpost about this! Now, the reason why somebody would use and should use this; is simply because it's really user friendly. This is powerfull, gives direct feedback on what you do, therefore people know what is going on! Making this the perfect addition to a website that allows this kind of uploading for the general users.

B. Requirements and Instructions

Uploadify requires your to have the uploadify script provided as in the official download page. The latest version always will be the best version to have and thus i recommend downloading it of their website instead of using the version provided in the sample code. Next to the uploadify script you will Jquery aswell, as this script is build on top of the Jquery Framework.

Next to including all the required files, it is needed to initialize the Uploadify object. You do this by implementing the following code on the same page where the files are included. The code will look a little like the code provided below, although given the fact that there are more parameters that you can include to specify your Uploadify object even more to improve the quality or security check on the content that will be uploaded.

Sessions are very usefull and certainly if you want to make your variables a little bit more accessible. In the video i will handle on how to make these and destroying the variables again.

In the sessions you can create the variables and use them on more pages just as easily. Before you create session, you will need to declare the session itself by starting it. We do this with the session_start function() like shown here below:

When the session has been created you can now store data in created session variables. You can declare a variable. In the shown example i will declare the variable "name" with the value "bob"

$_SESSION['name'] = "bob";

Now that the session exists, we will be able to call to this variable from different pages just as we did in the video. You can also destroy a variable by using the unset function like this:

// Destroying a specific session variable
unset( $_SESSION['name'] );

// Destroying the whole session while keeping it active
unset( $_SESSION );

That is how you create a basic session. Also how to unset variables so that the data is no longer in the session.

Coda Slider is a popular media display for showing as much content on your website, while not taking heaps of space in. It's a discreet and nice, dynamic way to show content to the users. Navigation is easy and will come natural to most users, that is also one of the reasons to why it is so popular amongst programmers and website owners.

B. Requirements and Instructions

Coda Slider 2.0 will require you to include a version of jQuery with the easing library for jQuery. These both have been noted down in the Download and Linkies section of this article. It will also require you to include the coda slider script itself and initialize the script by selecting the actual coda slider object in the html document. It will look like the example shown below.

This will work as soon as the script has been hooked to the Jquery selecter, and all scripts and css documents have been successfully linked to the page. Nothing more, nothing less.

A. Fancybox

Fancybox is a Jquery based Javascript that allows you to display content onto your website dynamicly and directly on the same page. This means that the users won't have to leave the page in order to view the media intended for them to see, weither it would be a picture, video or even another website.

B. Requirements and Instructions

Fancybox requires only the Fancybox product and Jquery, that are both available on their respective websites. The websites have been noted down in the Download and Linkies section.

Fancybox is a right-out-of-the-box product. Easy to setup as seen in the video. There is a demo included in the official download aswell as in ours. You need to setup the link to the stylesheet and scripts provided and a hook to the class or id. This would be coded like the following example.

This will work as soon as the script has been hooked to the Jquery selecter, and all scripts and css documents have been successfully linked to the page.

A. New Year's Resolution

I hope that your new year was good, mine sure was. I've set a few goals for myself that i want to uphold so the quality of my Youtube videos and blog content shall only gain and be a better place to gather your tech information / know-how-to's.

I've made the decision to change the content from 720p to 1080p. This big step shall enhance the detail and quality of my content greatly. This resolution is mostly to get the standards of the channel up. I've recently upgraded my PC, and therefore my choice in this.

I've also decided to create an intro to put infront of every video i will upload to my EpicSoftworks channel. This doesn't add to the quality, but rather creates an uniformal feel to the channel and videos.

B. Youtube Channel Content

The content of my Youtube channel is important to me. I try to aim for high standards, and try my best to uphold these throughout every video i make. Content is important, although quantity and consistant content have been an issue the last couple of months. I shall try to create a more consistant feel by creating a little bit more content and uploading a video more often to the Youtube channel. Not to mention keeping this blog active.

C. Blog Styling

You might also noticed that this blogpost is really alot different from the others. The styling and layout are more organized, and i hope this will be easier to read than the previous blog's i've made. I will also upload source files to each [ Video ] blogpost, so that you won't have to copy the code.

Lots has happend and active again!

It has been a while since I've made a blogpost! December has always been a busy time of the year for me until now. I will be able to create more products as I've got more time on my hands. I will also be looking for a few persons to take into EpicSoftworks to create more products. Now, this is not a paid job, rather do not look upon this as a job at all. See it more as a group of people willing to program together. Sort of like a programming community. No obligations, no strict times, no forced meetings and all is just a learn from each other and create something powerful together.

There are a few projects that I'm currently working on that I would like to have some other persons looking and working on as well. Just so they can support, give feedback and I can do the same to support them. I don't even require people who know a lot, as long as you have a general understanding of what programming is and a general understanding of most functions in PHP. I'm willing to give in and learn most of the stuff as long as your motivated. So that's all about that.

The few projects that I've been working on is the application I've been developing for the BlackBerry Playbook and a free-to-use modular CMS system. I've been working really hard on both products and since I've got more time on my hands now to create and develop these products, progress is on the way!

Application for the Blackberry Playbook!

Well, I suppose I would tell a little bit more on the application that I'm developing for the BlackBerry Playbook. It's going to be an reader app for e-books. I know that they're already there, but they just don't work as smooth as I'd like them to be. And that's why I thought I could do it better.

Now I've made the application interface and now working on the reader itself. I also have no clue what the app is going to cost, although I'm sure there is going to be a cost to use the application permanently. I will also make a test version available, and a trial version.

Through the process of developing applications I discovered how interesting BlackBerry Playbook applications can be. It's fun to play around with the software development kit, which in return will learns me more about how these applications are made and how they work.

I do have plans to make more applications in the near future, but as for now I just want to focus on one application. I want to make it smooth and I want to make it work fast. As were some other applications don't work fast and are not responsive. I want to make it quality app and put it out when it's ready. I will also not release any screenshots whatsoever regarding this topic.

Hi there,

I guess you are sticking around when you read this. The blog has had a great overhaul due to the design that was not fitting to my channel. I've been doing a lot of work in my personal life lately, so I haven't gotten around to making any videos whatsoever. This blog post is more or less an update on what's going on.

Recently, I bought a few games for friends and for myself in the Autumn Steam Sales. These sales are still going on at the current time of this blog( 25-11-2011 ). Every day they at new deals that you can buy for a very cheap price. I like that and so I decided to buy a few games that I always was thinking about buying. I bought most titles for a few euros, which normally would cost me a few tens or twenties.

Also, Sinterklaas is a holiday that we celebrate in Holland. It is currently going on and on the 5th of December is going to end. Then next up we will have Christmas which is my personal favorite. Then during the holidays, I need to work a lot. This of course is normal, and it's not uncommon to think about during the holidays people will work more than they would normally do.

Now just to let you guys know, the projects are still on the tracks. At the moment though, it's on the pause but I will get back at it soon as I get more time to make the videos.

EpicSoftworks Newest Tech Purchase: Blackberry Playbook!

I thought it would be fun to write about this in my blog, as my newest purchase is a Blackberry Playbook.I decided to go with this tablet because it was the cheapest compared to the others and of course it holds the best quality for the price range I bought it for. This 7 inch goodness costed me 280, and already enjoying the apps and high-quality content that it allows you to play.

One of my favorite tech TV podcasts like Twit.tv has an application that allows you to watch all episodes. I was happy to see tha twit happens to be on the playbook and honestly did not expect it to be there. The streaming works seemingly on a wireless network even though the signal is not all that good. I streamed high-quality content over the network and found no problems in doing so. That being said, in the end this device will do everything I demand it to; will also play a nice game; will also be my e-reader; and also function as a music and video player. It'll also allow you to take high-quality pictures with the resolution of 1080p, video footage that is equally as good and stored this on your device; and working smooth in an out every app.

I will live in another blog post talking more deeply onto my newest purchase, but now I'm just playing around with the device and getting to know what power the Playbook holds x)

[ Video ] Inner Join select Query!

In this blog post will talk about the inner join. The inner join is an SQL statement that you can use to load data. As opposed to be left join, which is the last statement we discussed; the inner join will not load the data that doesn't have a relation.

This would practically mean that when our news article doesn't have any images in it, it doesn't display. The inner join is just the same as the left join, and therefore the SQL statements look almost the same. Yet still we are going to dissect the code and dive into everything that the statement says.

SELECT `news_articles`.`name`, `news_articles`.`contents`, `news_images`.`image` FROM `news_articles` INNER JOIN `news_images` ON `news_articles`.`id`=`news_images`,`news_id`;

SELECT
To indicate that we are selecting data from our database.

`news_articles`.`name`, `news_articles`.`contents`, `news_images`.`image`
The fields that we want to select and retrieve from the database. Note that when a relation cannot be found, either of the fields will not load.

FROM
To state from wich tables we are going to select data from.

INNER JOIN
The inner join will look for a relation between the two tables. Whenever the relation is found it will put out the data. When the relation is not found it will not.

ON
This is the field that you will join. They will have to match in field type because otherwise it could not make a relation between the two fields.

`news_articles`.`id`=`news_images`,`news_id`;
These other fields that we are going to make the relation on. Both of these IDs are integers and therefore it's easy to make the relation between the two. Note that both fields have to be the same field type in order to make the relation.

Now, I hope that this blogpost in addition to the video will make the inner join clear to you. To summarize what a inner join does: it will basically match the IDs, in this case. If a relation were to be find between the fields; it would select the data and put it out. If theres no relation at all between the fields; it will not put out the data. That is where a inner join differs from the left and a full join.

EpicSoftworks own CMS System!

This blog post is going to be about a project I'm going to start. I'm going to make an attempt to create a CMS system. Also known as a content management system.

Now, I've seen a lot of content management systems on the Internet. I want to give it a twist, make it my own and make it as good as I can make it. I want it to be accessible and easy to handle. I'm working together with someone in my class, to make a clean looking interface for this content management system. Now, you might think that this is something everyone wants for his CMS system. Although it seems that way, have yet to see an updated CMS system that is ready to handle all the current technologies out on the Internet.

I've also decided that I'm going to attempt to make it modular. This will make it easy on the user when he needs an additional module. He will just be able to place the module in his current CMS system and it will automatically recognize the module.

Why a blog post about this? I just want to share some of the information that I'll be putting into the project. Dissecting some of the codes to help you understand how certain system works.

Why now? I do have to agree that now out of all times is a pretty busy time. I don't have much time on my hands and the time I do have needs to be filled in carefully. This however is also a motivation for me to do something. Also, EpicSoftworks does not have a whole lot of products on the line. This doesn't automatically mean that I'll give the CMS out public, it just means that I have given it a bit of thought.

When the basic design is done, I will give you a screenshot to keep you up-to-date with the progress I made. Also, feel free to join in and give me some direct feedback on any of the stuff I put up. [ Video ] Left Join select Query!

This blogpost is about the Left Join select query. This allows you to load out all data from the left table, and IF available a relation data from the right table. We will break down the query in this blogpost like we did before. In the video we took the news articles as an example. Where we left joined the images table to the news articles.

SELECT `news_articles`.`name`, `news_articles`.`contents`, `news_images`.`image` FROM `news_articles` LEFT JOIN `news_images` ON `news_articles`.`id`=`news_images`,`news_id`;

SELECT
To indicate that we are selecting data from our database.

[ Video ] Morrowind - 07 / Placing Objects

Morrowind's TES Construction Set might be old and might be outdated, yet still the most fun construction set i've worked with. This video is about placing objects and you will mainly see me placing the nature of the island. I will be making a few timelapses aswell to show the progess i'm making with the mod.

While making nature you have to bear in mind that you need to make things look inregular and as strange as posible. Morrowind is a world of fantasy and nature never looks very square and flat. So, use the terraform tool, use textures, use shadows and flora to make the nature come alive. This blogpost will be a short one, as there is little to explain and go further on.

Thunderfalls Addon in Morrowind

Thunderfalls was a addon i started to create in a video series. My computer crashed and was unable to create the mod because i lost the files during the reinstall of my computer. Ever since, i've not gotten back at the whole Morrowind series.

Recently, i've decided to pick that series up again and finish what i started. This will contain making Thunderfalls as an island, texturing, creating places, interiors, quests and smart NPC's.

The people that subscribed to this channel because of the Morrowind Series will not regret that as i'm going to make these videos better as ever and put my ideas on the videos as we make the mod. This will take some time but i'll get the videos up eventually. Thunderfalls will be uploaded for download after i've done the video series so you guys can download it and even play the mod.

[ Video ] Selecting Data from a Database

Now, we have our database and we are able to generate data in this database. Now, we want to be able select that data and put it to use. To display data is to use the select query. We are going to disect the select query as used in the video.

First off all. This select statement is very wide and we will get back at it. This is just a basic selecting statement, but there is so much you can do when you combine SQL and PHP together to create a query that is going to retrieve data. Everything i talk now, will return in the blogs and the videos.

SELECT DISTINCT `tag` FROM `tagcloud`.`tags` WHERE `tag` LIKE \'%construction%\' ORDER BY RAND();

SELECT
To indicate that we are going to retrieve data from our database.

DISTINCT
To retrieve unique results only during our select query.

`tag`
The field that we are going to retrieve and use distinct on.

FROM `tagcloud`.`tags`
From where we are going to select this data. ( database.table )

WHERE `tag` LIKE \'%construction%\'
Where the `tag` field contains %partialy% our string.

Note: You can search for an exact match or a partial match by using the percentage signs in the search patern. When using the percentage signs it will partialy search for the snippet provided. Without, it will match exactly and return those who are exactly the same.

ORDER BY RAND();
This will randomly select a result until the query has been fully executed.

Hope this video tutorial helped you a bit on SQL. This basic query was just to retrieve some of the data that we had in our database by using distinct on our query. This resulted in unique query results and for our website unique tags. We will be doing more advanced stuff with the select query in other videos.

This was just to show you a practical application of what you can do with the select query and to give you an idea of how crazy you can go with SQL. We created our database and table in the last video. Now it's time to generate content for that table so we can use that later. We generate content useing Insert in our SQL query. In the video on Youtube I show the following query. We are going to break that query down in this blogpost.

INSERT INTO `testdb`.`names`( `fname`, `lname` ) VALUES( `Stephen`, `Generic` );

INSERT
To indicate that we are going to generate content for our table.

INTO
To indicate where the content is going to be generated.

VALUES
The actual content that we are going to put into our table.

The query is really easy to understand and shouldn't be to hard to figure out. I hope this helped you, and here is the video from Youtube to help you understand and to show you an example of the insert query.

[ Video ] Creating SQL Database and Table

SQL is a language I use a lot in php. As result I wanted to learn this language for my own. Therefore this video series. This blogpost will be disecting the query's shown and tell you what each part is.

Also, if you have an interesting subject related to SQL you would like to see return to this specific series then comment on the video like one viewer did before. Now, lets get started with the basics.

An line of SQL code is called a query. A query is a line of code to 'interact' sort of with the database. The lines that we used in the video made us able to create a database, table and to delete all of that alltogether. Lets first start with our line of code:

CREATE DATABASE `testdb`;

This line obviously makes a new database, now lets break this code down so this will be clear to all.

CREATE
This indicates what the query is going to do. We are indicating that we are going to create something in the database.

DATABASE
This indicates what we are going to make in the database.

`testdb`;
The name of the database that we are creating. Also, closing down the end of the query by putting in an semi-colon.

Now, this wasn't so hard now was it! This was actually fairly simple! Now lets move on to a bit of an more difficult code. Here we make our first table and assign a few properties to our table fields. We are making an index, giving it the primary key and the auto increment property. Also a field with the varchar type, this code is still rather simple but lets break down the code so everything will be clear again.

CREATE TABLE `testdb`.`persons`(

`id` int(10) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT PRIMARY KEY,
`name` varchar(50) NOT NULL
) ENGINE = MYISAM;

CREATE TABLE
I'll leave this one up to you as this might be pretty simple to guess with previous explaination.

`testdb`.`persons`
The first field is the database the table is going to be in. The second is the actual table we are going to create with this query.

`id`
This is the field we are going to create.

NOT NULL
This means the field is required. This needs to be filled in, otherwise the query will not succeed.

AUTO_INCREMENT
This means the index value will keep incrementing when there is an insert into that table. This will make this value unique for the primary key.

PRIMARY KEY
The primary key is there to indentify each row and will serve its purpose as an index number. It also garantees that the field will be unique hence the auto increment property.

int(10)
This is one of the many field types. Int stands for Integer. This is also limted by 10 characters as given between the brackets.

varchar(10)
This is another field type. This is a field that will accept any type of characters and will not restrict you to just numbers or just text.

ENGINE = MYISAM
The engine is the storage engine for that specific table. MYISAM is commonly used throughout lots of databases and is the default storage engine for MySQL.

That wraps our code up basicly. Now, I hope this helped you make your first babysteps in SQL and that you will learn and follow the videos lots. All I can say is to learn the code, experiment and learn from the 'mistakes' that you make while experimenting! That is the best way to learn and has always helped me big times!

[ Video ] Dropdown Menu - IE Compatible

In this blog i will mainly talk about styling in IE and how this effects on everything you do as a programmer regarding making your website as compatible possible.

If you saw the video I uploaded yesterday, then you might notice that the only thing i did was declaring the doctype to make the dropdown menu work. Therefore it ISN'T hard to make a website work with IE. I tend to use the Strict 4.01 Doctype and style by these rules.

This is the most narrowing set of rules you have for styling a website but will have the best result in any case. This will make it look the same on every browser ( or as close as... ) Strict is also the hardest doctype to use because it handles the most rules.

The dropdown menu was infact compatible with every browser i had installed on my machine and to the naked eye, looked exactly the same. I tend to perfectionize my codes as good as possible and try to make it precise as far as 1 pixel. The video is a great example of how the structure of a dropdown menu works. The styling however is always to how the user wants it. I just gave an example of what it could be, and it looks ok.

[ Video ] Keeping your Code Clean!

We programmers need to uphold a clean code. This means that we could look at one another's code and still be able to read quickly and clearly what the code is about. That is what the video is about and what i'll be showing.

I'll be showing how easy it is to make a code clean and how to start out clean in the first place. Also, by any means; this represents the way i work. Just my personal way of working with code as i've seen a lot of people work in different ways. This will make it a little more difficult at times, when sharing codes.

StackOverflow is a good website to check out codes and to see how a lot of different people program. It's a code sharing website. You can post codes on there and share them via a link. StackOverflow is also a great community for sharing problems that need fixing. Enough about that though, because the point of this blog was to show how this could improve your work. Here are two examples of how a code sometimes is or what it can be.

You can clearly see that the second picture is much better and more orginized than the first one. This is what ill be showing in the video below. I would appreciate if you leave a comment and like the video. Thanks!

This blog will basicly be as summary of the video on Youtube explaining what the for statement is. The for loop is regarded one of the most complex statements because it uses 3 parameters. The first parameter to initialize the dynamic variable you can use throughout the whole loop. The second to state weither the statement is true or false and based on that it will continue execute the code block. The last parameter will be an code it will execute after each loop.

Here a overview:

Parameter1
To Initiate the dynamic variable.

Parameter2
The statement that defines weither the code block is going to executed.

Parameter3
The last will be a code to execute after the code block has been executed.

Introduction
This blog is going to be about the PC i plan to buy next year around January - February. I will be explaining the choices i've made as far as parts go. Also will be posting links to shops in EU and USA, so that you can look at prices.

Motherboard - Asus Rampage III Black Edition

Asus is known for it's good quality. It has been making motherboards for as long as i know. I've had 2 Asus motherboards before and never had any problems with them. This mobo also claims to be the most high end motherboard on the market. Thus my choice for it. This will set you back a few bucks, but worth it.

This motherboard will also come with a network/audiocard known as the Asus Thunderbolt card. Using the Xonar audio driver that we know from their earlier sound cards and also featuring the Killer E2100 dedicated NPU. You might ask yourself what this will do? An NPU( Network Processing Unit ) will help you get faster internet by directly connecting the card to the internet by avoiding the "maze" it normaly goes through. This card will actually help you, and is slightly noticable. You will slightly see that it will do it's work in applications like games. This board also features the Intel Socket 1366, wich houses the Core i7 Processors.

Processor - Intel Core i7 980

Everybody knows Intel and their processors. They are the most expensive brand next to AMD for desktop PC's.

My choice for this processor was actually quickly made as the price/quality ratio was very high on this proc. I've considered AMD, but chose Intel over AMD because of the performance difference. I also liked the motherboard over those that feature the AM3 Socket. It might be more expensive, but worth it seen the motherboards available for AM3 that don't offer the same features as those of 1366.

Internal Memory - Corsair Vengeance 12GB Triple Channel

I've chosen to go fancy with my memory and will be getting a triple channel kit from Corsair. The've always been strong on memory and want to get their value kit "Vengeance".

These also feature a heat spreader that will help keeping your memory cool. These are quite expensive, although not as expensive as their "Dominators" series. Vengeance compared to others might still be a little more expensive; but on the other hand do others not feature a heat spreader like Corsair did in their Vengeance series. All and all, i think this wraps up my choice for the memory.

Videocard - 2x AMD Radeon HD6950

I've not decided the brand yet to go with my system; although my preferences for AMD videocards go to Asus, MSI and Sapphire.

I will run these two videocards in a Crossfire setup, utilizing a full PCIe 2.0 x16 slot as the Asus Rampage III Black Edition is able to. The second videocard will be in use alot as i will be gaming on high-end graphics, running 2 monitors and watching high defenition videos a whole lot. This videocard will handle up to a resolution of 2560x1600 via DVI and 1920x1200 via HDMI. This also features a VGA, but not taking that in consideration as i won't be using that.

HDD and SSD's - 3x WD Black Caviar, 1x Crusial M4

Western Digital always has been a leading brand on HDD's. WD makes additional technologies that enhance the way a HDD works. These are technologies that you will only find in WD HDD's.

Now, the HDD is a rathersimple story as prices for HDD's are really stable and WD doesn't cost a whole lot more than others. WD also features a stablizer in their HDD's. This can be found under the 360* view as seen on the page. They also feature a more stable read and write system wich decreases the way the HDD uses power. I've chosen to go with 3x 1TB instead of 1x 2TB because the price for 3x 1TB's is around the same as 1x 1TB. Thus my choice for the HDD.

SSD's are a whole different story and not made my final decision yet. Crusial has the best SSD seen they use the Marvell Chipset and are price technical the best.

SSD's still feature a lot of bugs because this is not the same technology as they use on HDD's. SSD's are a lot faster due to the flash memory they use to store information.

CPU Cooling - Prolimatech Mega Shadow

I've chosen for Promilatech because they came great out of reviews, can feature 2 fans and will fit in the case and next to my memory. It looks awesome and doesn't cost a whole lot. This is a really good looking, great quality cooling block for my CPU. I will be using this as i might slightly overclock my CPU.

Case - Corsair Obsidian 800D

This case is a product i already own, i'm happy with this case due to the awesome finish and cable management options. There is not a single cable that does unmanaged in my case. Everything is clean and tightly worked out. Airflow is optimized and actually did a test if it mattered much. End up it differs about 5-10* degrees celcius. That on its own is worth buying a case for. Corsair's flagship doesn't come cheap, but it is worth it. Besides, how many times will you be buying a high end case? This will last forever.

Monitors - 2x BenQ G2420HD 24"

I've gotten quite the BenQ fever since i recommended a BenQ monitor to my little brother.

I've first seen them on CES with their new line of monitors. After that my little brother got one, now it's my turn to get some good BenQ monitors. I know what to expect and what i will get with these, a great quality and durable monitor. I've chosen a normal display panel over edge-lit because it made a big difference in price.

What will all of this cost me?

There has been some changes in my life the last couple of months. Recently i've been getting some comments and messages stating that i did quite a good job on my videos. This motivated me to pick up where i left and trying to make a shot at a larger fanbase. This means for you guys that i'll be putting more effort into the videos and keeping this blog up-to-date with all the tutorials and such.

Ill be posting the videos with explaination on text and a copy and paste code. Also shining a little light on the technique and how to apply these to more situations. I hope you guys will also support me on the blog, this way ill be motivated to do this every time and improve on what i do.
